Ucross Foundation Spring 2027 Residency
The Ucross Foundation runs an artist residency on a 20,000-acre working ranch in northeastern Wyoming. The program was founded in 1981 with the first residency in 1983, and now hosts approximately 115 residents annually across two sessions: Fall (August through early December) and Spring (February through early June). Residencies run between two and six weeks; up to ten artists are in residence at any time, typically split as four writers, four visual artists, and two composers.
There is no residency fee. Residents receive private living accommodations, dedicated work space, all weekday meals prepared by the in-house chef (with self-catering provisions for weekends and breakfasts), weekly housekeeping, linens, and wireless internet. There is no stipend — artists provide their own materials and arrange their own travel to Sheridan, Wyoming, the nearest airport.
Eligibility is open globally to visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, interdisciplinary and performance artists, and collaborative teams, at both established and emerging career stages. Applicants must demonstrate professional standing, with both U.S. and international applicants welcome.
The application fee is $40, with no waivers available. Spring 2027 applications are accepted through Submittable from May 1 through July 15, 2026; Fall applications open later in the year (November 1 through January 15). Decisions are typically released within several months of each deadline.
