Penland Resident Artist Program
Penland School of Craft's long-running residency for professional craft artists at a pivotal moment in their practice, on its campus in the North Carolina mountains. Two options are offered: a 1-year project-based residency and a 3-year career-transition residency, both beginning March 15, 2027. Photography is among the accepted media alongside books, clay, drawing and painting, glass, iron, letterpress, metals, paper, printmaking, textiles and wood (hot glass excluded this cycle). Residents receive a private studio and apartment with utilities included, meals while school is in session, one tuition-free workshop annually and studio representation at the Penland Gallery — no housing or studio rental fees. No prior connection to Penland is required; reduced application fees are available on request.
