Wassaic Project 2027 Artist Residency

The Wassaic Project is a rural artist residency in the foothills of the Berkshires, two hours north of New York City in the small Hudson Valley hamlet of Wassaic. The 2027 program offers two seasonal tracks: summer sessions (3 to 4 weeks, June through September) in the Luther Barn studio building, and winter sessions (2 to 4 weeks, January through March) in the historic Maxon Mills.

Residents receive a private bedroom in a shared house with common spaces, a dedicated studio (200–300 square feet in summer; approximately 100 square feet in winter), 24-hour studio access, and use of the campus print shop and wood shop. Programming includes studio visits with visiting critics and curators, group critiques, and one-on-one studio visits.

Eligibility is unusually broad: individual artists, collaborative teams, groups of two or more, and family-residency applicants are all welcome. Media accepted include photography alongside painting, sculpture, installation, sound, video, and writing.

Cost is on a need-blind sliding scale from $0 to $900 per session, covering most program costs. The application fee is $25 (waivable for financial hardship). Selection is by a panel including the three Wassaic Project Co-Directors (Eve Biddle, Bowie Zunino, Jeff Barnett-Winsby), the Director of Artistic Programming (Will Hutnick), and the Assistant Director of Exhibitions and Residency (Danielle Klebes). The 2027 cycle deadline is July 1, 2026; notifications by early October.
