The Life of Color

Praxis Photo Arts Center is a Minneapolis-based photography gallery and educational center. "The Life of Color" is the gallery's themed call exploring color as a central force in image-making — work where hue, value, and saturation operate as deliberate construction rather than decoration. The brief frames color as signal: amplifying, unifying, or destabilizing what is seen.

Up to 38 photographs are selected for the exhibition, running June 20 through July 11, 2026 at Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis. Selected work is displayed in museum-quality 22×22 inch black frames with white mattes. Optional high-resolution printing service is available for a $37 fee covering printing, matting, framing, and installation — useful for photographers shipping from outside the region.

Awards: a Directors' Choice (free entry into two future Praxis juried calls) and five Honorable Mentions, all featured in the exhibition, printed catalog, and online gallery. Selected work is also archived in Praxis's online gallery and offered for sale through the gallery (50% commission).

Selection is by Praxis Directors. Entry fees: $35 for up to 5 images, $5 per additional image (max 10 total). New Praxis members receive one free entry. Limited free submissions are available for artists experiencing financial hardship.

Eligibility requires applicants to be 18 or over, with work that has not been previously shown at Praxis within the past year. The 2026 deadline is May 17 at 11:59 PM CT; results announced May 23.
