Magnetic 5 Residency Programme 2026
Fluxus Art Projects is a UK-registered charity dedicated to supporting cultural exchange between France and the United Kingdom across the visual arts. Magnetic, now in its fifth iteration, is the foundation's flagship residency programme — a tandem structure pairing French regions with UK nations so that artists travel in both directions across the Channel as a single cohort.
The 2026 cycle offers residencies across five tandem pairings. From France, artists from Nouvelle-Aquitaine travel to Wysing Arts Centre near Cambridge; Hauts-de-France to Flax Art Studios in Belfast; Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur to Cove Park in Scotland; Brittany to Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales; and Île-de-France to Gasworks in London. The reverse pairings apply for UK-based artists travelling to French institutions in the same regions.
Each residency runs 2 to 3 months and provides a minimum monthly allowance of £2,100 (or €2,500), accommodation, workspace access, and curatorial mentoring. The 2026 brief frames the programme around societal and environmental issues, asking artists to engage with the geographical, historical, social, and artistic context of the host site. Eligibility is restricted to professional visual artists with exhibition history in recognized contemporary art venues, individuals only (no collectives or duos), French nationals or those resident in France for at least five years, and British nationals or those resident in the UK for at least five years. Students are not eligible, with PhD candidates as the exception.
Applications close at midnight on Tuesday 2 June 2026 via Google Forms, requiring an artistic proposal articulating the practice's relevance to the residency context and a motivational statement on why an international residency matters at this point in the applicant's career. Interviews are held 6–10 July; results are announced 20 July 2026.
