Guest Room: Auronda Scalera & Alfredo Cramerotti
Guest Room is Der Greif's recurring curator-led open call format. Each Guest Room is shaped by an external curator or curatorial duo who set the theme and the selection criteria. The 2026 edition is curated jointly by Auronda Scalera and Dr. Alfredo Cramerotti.
Scalera is an Artistic Director, curator, and lecturer; she curates Ding Yi: Cosmotechnique at Fondazione Querini Stampalia for the 2026 Venice Art Biennale. Cramerotti is Director of the Media Majlis Museum at Northwestern University Qatar and President of IKT (the International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art).
The theme is Shifting Thresholds. The brief asks for photographic and image-based work engaging with displacement as both a lived experience and an aesthetic condition: migration, bodily transformation, exile, environmental change — and more subtle forms like digital mediation and algorithmic vision.
Selected work is featured on Der Greif's platform. Selected artists also receive a face-to-face feedback session with the curators — direct rather than written. One artist receives a €250 scholarship. Eligibility is open globally; previously selected works from past Guest Rooms are not eligible.
Submission is through Picter, 1 to 5 images. The fee is voluntary (PWYC); financial hardship vouchers are available by emailing voucher-guestroom-2@dergreif.org. The 2026 deadline was May 7.
