Eliza Moore Fellowship for Artistic Excellence 2027
The Eliza Moore Fellowship for Artistic Excellence is administered by the Oak Spring Garden Foundation (OSGF), located on a 700-acre estate at 1776 Loughborough Lane in Upperville, Virginia. OSGF was the country home of philanthropists Paul and Bunny Mellon, with a working agricultural landscape and a rare book library holding over 19,000 botanical art objects.
The fellowship awards $10,000 plus a required 2- to 5-week residency at OSGF, with residency length matching one of OSGF's structured Interdisciplinary Residency or Botanical Artist Residency start dates: March 1, April 25 (max 3 weeks), May 24, July 12, August 29 (max 3 weeks), or October 4 (2027 dates). Housing is in private bedrooms with shared common spaces alongside one to three other residents. Ground transportation from Dulles Airport is arranged by OSGF.
The fellowship is interdisciplinary: visual artists (including photographers), literary artists, dancers, and musicians are all eligible, provided their work addresses plants, gardens, or landscapes broadly defined. Eligibility is restricted to early-career artists not enrolled in an undergraduate program in 2027. Applicants must demonstrate professional recognition through exhibitions, commissions, performances, grants, residencies, or publications. Established artists with extensive solo exhibitions or significant book publications are ineligible.
Past fellows include Ariana Benson (2022), Fidencio Fifield-Perez (2021), Emma Steinkraus (2020), Maddison Colvin (2020), and Jennifer Scheuer (2019). Selection is by multi-round review with OSGF staff, residency alumni, and external jurors in the relevant field.
Applications are free, made through Submittable. The 2027 cycle deadline is May 31, 2026.
