Women's Studio Workshop — Studio Residency Grant 2026
The Studio Residency Grant is Women's Studio Workshop's flagship residency program — distinct from the teaching-focused Art-in-Ed Workspace Residency, this grant supports artists working independently on their own practice without a teaching component.
Residency length is 4 to 6 weeks. WSW's facilities include five distinct studios: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, and darkroom photography. Residents choose which studio they want to work in, with technical advice and production assistance available throughout the residency.
The grant is unusually well-funded for a printmaking and photo residency. Each resident receives a $350 per week stipend plus up to $500 for materials and up to $250 toward travel within the Continental US. Free on-site housing is included, with 24/7 studio access throughout the residency.
The application timeline is unusual: residencies take place September through June, but typically 1 to 2 years after the application is submitted. This long lead time lets WSW match residents to specific studio time blocks based on the work proposed.
Eligibility is open to artists at any career stage. There is no application fee. Applications go through Submittable and require a current resume, 300-word project description, up to 10 images with image script (title, medium, dimension, date), and an optional indication of interest in WSW's other residency programs. The 2026 application window opens February 15 and closes May 15 at 11:59 PM EST; results announced July.
