The Hopper Prize Grants
The Hopper Prize runs twice a year, awarding six grants per cycle: two at $4,500 and four at $1,000. Founded in 2018, it awards $26,000 annually across both cycles. There's no medium restriction — recent recipients have worked in photography, painting, sculpture, video, performance, and installation. The prize is open to all career stages and accepts direct applications only; nominations aren't part of the process.
Beyond the cash awards, 30 artists per cycle are archived at hopperprize.org with biographies and links to their websites. That's 60 artists per year placed on the prize's site alongside winners — being shortlisted is roughly five times more likely than winning, and the archive itself functions as a form of recognition.
The current juror is Misa Jeffereis, an assistant curator at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, a non-collecting institution with a contemporary program. The juror rotates each cycle. Application fee is $40. Deadline May 12, 2026; results announced August 28, 2026.
