The Hand Magazine - Issue #53 Summer 2026

The Hand Magazine is a color print publication that features photographic and printed-media work selected through a juried process. The magazine has run for over 50 issues — Issue #53 marks the Summer 2026 edition.

The Hand has a deliberately atypical editorial position: "There is NEVER A THEME. We want variety." Each issue brings together work across genres and processes — alternative-process prints, photogravures, photopolymer plates, screen prints, hybrid photo-and-print work — chosen for visual interest rather than thematic cohesion. The magazine specifically seeks work that incorporates photographic or printed media, making it especially relevant for alternative-process and hybrid-media practitioners.

Submission is gated by subscription: photographers must subscribe to a single issue (or be existing subscribers) before submitting. Subscription rates vary by region: $15 in the U.S., $20 in Canada and Mexico, $30 elsewhere. Multiple individuals at the same address may submit up to 5 combined images under one subscription.

Each photographer submits a maximum of 5 images per issue. Selection is juried and competitive — the guidelines explicitly note: "There is no guarantee that your work will be printed." Selected work appears in the printed magazine.

The Issue #53 deadline is May 31, 2026. Submissions to thehandmagazine@gmail.com (or thehandmagazine@icloud.com for Kansas residents paying by check or money order).
