Nes Artist Residency — Fall 2026

Nes is a 1- to 6-month residency in Skagaströnd, a small fishing town on Iceland's north coast. The program is deliberately interdisciplinary: the same campus hosts visual artists, writers, musicians, dancers, and researchers, with discipline-specific spaces — a research library for writers, the BioPol dance studio, a ceramics workshop, and access to the local music school. Visual artists receive an individual workspace inside a shared open-plan studio.

The fall 2026 cycle covers September, October, and November; private bedrooms and shared common areas are included. Monthly cost is €850. The application fee is $15 and submissions go through SlideRoom; selection prioritizes "curiosity and experimentation" over conventional credentials. Nes does not currently offer scholarships or stipends — artists fund their own stay.

The location is remote: Skagaströnd has a population of about 500, and the residency draws on that isolation as part of its program. Past residents have used the time for self-directed projects, with optional artistic and cultural exchange built into the schedule.
