Monochromatic Awards 2026

The Monochromatic Awards is Dodho Magazine's annual prize for monochromatic photography, now in its 5th edition. The interpretation of "monochromatic" is unusually broad: traditional black and white, grayscale, sepia, cyanotype, or any other variation based on a single tone is accepted. Color photographs reduced to single-tone palettes qualify alongside historical alternative-process work.

Selection is not divided by genre. Instead the jury evaluates work on "clear vision and a defined intention," with no separate tracks for portrait, landscape, documentary, or fine art. The jury comprises winners from previous editions: Carl Doghouse (2025, UK), Luca Onnis (2024, Italy), Zhenhuan Zhou (2023, Canada), and Ian Pettigrew (2022, Canada) — a structural choice that lineages the award through its own history.

Entry fees scale by image count: €30 for 3 images, €45 for 6, €60 for 12. The first prize winner is recognized as "Photographer of the Year." The top five (1st, 2nd, 3rd, plus two honorable mentions) receive prominent editorial coverage on Dodho's site. All 100 finalists are included in the annual printed volume, a 30×30 cm hardcover on premium matte paper.

Eligibility is open globally to individuals and collectives. Previously published work is accepted, and there is no restriction on when the images were created. The 2026 deadline is July 15, with results announced late July.
