Close-up Photographer of the Year 2026 (CUPOTY 8)
Close-up Photographer of the Year (CUPOTY) is an international competition celebrating the small world — the macro, micro, and close-up imagery that rewards patience and a careful eye. The 8th edition (CUPOTY 8) is open for entries now, judged by a panel of specialist photographers.
Entries are spread across eleven categories: Animals, Insects, Invertebrate Portrait, Arachnids, Butterflies & Dragonflies, Underwater, Plants, Fungi & Slime Moulds, Intimate Landscape, Studio Art, and a dedicated Young CUPOTY category for entrants under 18. Each category carries its own shortlist, so a single strong frame can rise on its own merits.
The overall winner receives £2,500 in cash, a macro kit, and a trophy; each category winner receives £250 and a certificate, and the Young CUPOTY winner receives £300. More than 60 shortlist places are awarded per category, and finalists gain wide exposure through the competition's books and exhibitions.
Entry is tiered: £22 for 6 pictures, £33 for 15, or £44 for 30 (earlybird discounts apply until June 7), with Young CUPOTY entry at £5 for 15 pictures. Registration takes only a couple of minutes and images can be uploaded later. The final deadline is July 12, 2026, with submissions accepted up to one week afterwards.
