Leela Mukherjee Artist-Educator Grant 2026

Third edition of the Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation's annual grant for artist-educators in India, instituted in 2024 with the support of the Welham Old Boys' Society and named for the modernist sculptor and teacher Leela Mukherjee, who introduced art to generations of students at Welham Boys' School in Dehradun. Three grants of Rs. 1 lakh each support practitioners running an art education project with school-aged children (5–18), inside or outside the classroom, over a period of up to 12 months. The foundation looks for projects that fold local knowledge, lived environments and everyday experience into teaching methods, and for artists whose own practice and pedagogy inform one another. Proposals should describe the student group and why the artist works with them, the innovative strategies and artistic methods proposed, expected outcomes after 12 months, a tentative budget and a timeline. Applicants must be Indian citizens resident in India and over 18; collectives may apply if every member qualifies. The foundation's grants are restricted to the visual arts, which include lens-based practice.
