HOPE

Juried exhibition running September 25 – November 6, 2026 at The Studio Door, the gay-owned and operated gallery in San Diego. The brief is a single question — what gives you hope? — with no prescribed message or point of view: the gallery is looking for authentic work capable of making a lasting connection with the people who see it, work collectors will want to live with. Painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fibre art, artist books and sculpture are all accepted; performance art is not, and video, film, installation or anything requiring an external power source needs gallery approval before submitting. An entry is one to three artworks, all of which must be available for sale and arrive gallery-ready, with black or natural wood frames preferred. Juror Patric Stillman, the gallery's founder, juried the 2025 Oceanside Museum of Art Biennial, writes a monthly arts column for The WORD San Diego and received the 2024 Larry T. Baza Arts & Culture Award from San Diego Pride; he gives three Juror's Awards of $100 each. Gallery space is limited, so not every accepted submission can be hung. Open to Southern California visual artists; artists are notified by September 4 and are responsible for hand delivery on September 19 and pickup in November. Sales are split 50/50 with the gallery.
