Headlands Center for the Arts AIR 2027
Headlands Center for the Arts is a multidisciplinary residency program housed at 944 Fort Barry, Sausalito, California — within the Marin Headlands, a National Park Service property a few miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The 2027 Artist in Residence program is fully sponsored: residents receive studio space, on-site housing, chef-prepared meals, travel support, and a living-expenses stipend.
Approximately 50 to 60 artists are selected each year. Residencies range from four to ten weeks. The program is unusually broad in its disciplinary scope, with photography explicitly named alongside drawing, painting, sculpture, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary practice, social practice, arts professions, and architecture.
Eligibility is open globally to artists at all career stages — emerging through established. Local Bay Area, U.S. national, and international applicants are all welcomed.
The application portal opens April 1, 2026 and closes June 1, 2026. Application fees are tiered: $35 early bird (through May 4), $45 regular thereafter. Submissions go through SlideRoom and require up to 12 images of work. All applicants are notified of selection decisions by December 11, 2026.
