From Image to Meaning – Tirana
From Image to Meaning is a seven-day intensive visual storytelling and writing workshop held in Tirana, Albania, May 25–31, 2026. The program is organized by Reporter Akademie (Germany) in partnership with Vila 31 x Art Explora (Tirana).
The workshop is led by documentary photographer Ilir Tsouko and writer/journalist Gabriel Proedl. Participants research, produce, edit, and present a short story combining photography, optional video, and text — the brief is image-and-text by design, not photography alone.
The program culminates in a public group exhibition and presentation at Vila 31 x Art Explora. From the participant cohort, 2–3 selected projects are prepared for pitching to editors in Europe and the United States — an editorial-pipeline outcome rather than just exhibition.
Three full grants are available, covering the €750 participation fee for one photographer, one writer, and one filmmaker. Maximum 15 total participants. Working language is English, with one-to-one mentoring also available in German and Greek/Albanian.
Eligibility is open to emerging and mid-career photographers, filmmakers, writers, and journalists working at the intersection of image and text. Application is free for grant consideration, submitted by email with 15–30 images. The 2026 deadline was April 12.
