FOTOHOF>CALLING
FOTOHOF is a long-running photography institution in Salzburg, Austria — a gallery, archive, and publishing platform. FOTOHOF>CALLING is its biennial open call for contemporary photographic projects. The call's structure is publication-plus-presentation rather than competition-prize.
Selection has two tiers. Around 25 artists are selected for online publication on the FOTOHOF>CALLING platform and in the FOTOHOF>CALLING Magazine. From these, 10 finalists are invited to present their projects in person in Salzburg on October 3, 2026 — with an open-air projection event on Inge-Morath-Platz, the public square named for the Magnum photographer.
Eligibility is restricted by recency and prior exposure: projects must be no older than three years and must not have been exhibited in institutional settings (museums, galleries, festivals). Student/university work and projects done within residency programs are exempt from this rule.
Geographic eligibility: artists who reside, work, or stay in Europe.
Application is free, with up to 12 images per project. Submission is through the FOTOHOF>CALLING website. The 2026 deadline was April 26; final presentation October 3, 2026.
