forgotten

A Smith Gallery is a Texas Hill Country photography gallery in Johnson City, Texas. "forgotten" is the gallery's themed call exploring what has been abandoned, buried, erased, lost, repressed, neglected, or vanished — a wide field of bygone, suppressed, and discarded subjects.

Up to 47 images are selected for the online exhibition; 27 of those are featured in a hardbound exhibition book, "The 27." The exhibition runs July 31 through September 10, 2026, presented online with a reception on August 29 at 3pm CST posted in the gallery's ASG Conversations.

The juror is Ann Mitchell, a Southern California–based artist, curator, and educator who holds a BFA in Photography from Art Center College of Design and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University. She taught at Long Beach City College for over twenty years; her own work explores landscape, memory, and transformation.

Awards: the Juror's Award includes an online solo exhibition, the hardbound book, and a blog feature. The Directors' Award includes the book and a blog feature. The Visitors' Award is $100 cash for the most Instagram likes during the exhibition.

Eligibility is open globally. Images are submitted at 1800 pixels on the longest side, JPEG, 72 ppi, with no watermarks. AI-generated images are not accepted. Entry fee is $40 for the first 5 images, $5 per additional image, with no submission limit. The 2026 deadline is July 6.
