Counter Histories Puerto Rico

Counter Histories is a Magnum Foundation fellowship program that supports photographers engaging with specific historical contexts. The 2026 cycle is focused on Puerto Rico and its diaspora — supporting projects that creatively reframe the past rather than only document the present.

Eligibility is restricted by subject and ties: photographers engaging with Puerto Rican histories or working from within the Puerto Rican diaspora. Applications are accepted in English or Spanish.

The fellowship is structured as an eight-month virtual program with one in-person symposium. Up to eight recipients per cycle. Each fellow receives a $10,000 stipend.

Application is free, submitted through Submittable with work samples. The 2026 deadline was April 1; results announced May 2026.
