We the People

Open call from Studio Montclair, a nationwide non-profit of exhibiting artists in New Jersey, for work that shows fellow citizens living their lives inside the 250-year-old experiment in democracy that is the United States — read through the Preamble's goals of a more perfect union, justice, tranquility, common defense, general welfare and liberty. Artists are encouraged to interpret those goals unconventionally. All mediums are accepted, including video and installation. The exhibition runs September 18 – October 23, 2026 at the Leach Gallery, 641 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair. Juror Jeremy Moss trained as a photographer in the UK, shot New York Fashion Week and campaigns for McGraw-Hill and the New York Times, and has curated the Iris Gallery at the South Orange Performing Arts Center for a decade. Cash awards will be presented. Studio Montclair retains 30% on sales, and exhibiting artists who live within 25 miles of the Leach Gallery must sit the gallery for at least two hours during the run or pay a $40 fee towards a sitter.
