Rarefied Light 2026
Rarefied Light is the Alaska Photographic Center's annual statewide juried exhibition. The 2026 cycle is juried by Nevada Wier, a photographer whose work has appeared in National Geographic, Smithsonian, and Getty Images. The exhibition is restricted to Alaska-based photographers — Rarefied Light is one of the few photography prizes structured specifically around the state.
Selected work tours four Alaska galleries from October 2026 onward, traveling between Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, and Cordova. The traveling format means accepted work reaches audiences across Alaska's geographically dispersed cities — a different kind of exhibition reach than a single venue stop.
The 2026 cycle includes a three-day workshop with the juror on August 14–16, 2026: "Seeing Photographically — Color, Light, Action, Pattern," instruction on converting visual observation into compelling photographs. Workshop fees are $250 (APC member), $300 (non-member), or $275 (member renewal plus workshop). A jury lecture takes place August 13.
Submissions accept up to 20 images of any photographic form except AI-generated work. Entry fees are $15 to $30. Eligibility is restricted to Alaska residents. Submissions go through CaFÉ; the 2026 deadline is June 10 at 10 PM AST, with results in July.
