PLACE/MEMORY — CONTACT Photography Festival
Northern Contemporary Gallery is a Toronto-based contemporary art gallery. "PLACE/MEMORY" is the gallery's photography open call presented as part of the 2026 CONTACT Photography Festival — Canada's largest photography festival, held annually across multiple Toronto venues.
The brief asks photographers to submit work representing their current practice through the medium of photography, responding to the theme of place and memory. The framing is open: literal documentation of specific places, abstract evocations of remembered locations, family or community archive work, and conceptual approaches to memory all qualify.
The exhibition is physical: it runs May 21 through June 2, 2026 at the gallery, with an opening reception on May 21 from 6 to 9 PM. The exhibition is part of the CONSTELLATION program curated by Su-Ying Lee and Emilie Croning, which forms part of the CONTACT festival's broader curatorial framework.
Submission is free of charge. AI-generated work is not accepted. Each artist submits up to 5 images via the official Google Form (one submission per artist).
Logistics: drop-off May 19; pick-up June 3. The 2026 deadline is May 12 at 11:59 PM.
