Open Call for Emerging Artists

This is an open call from Elyse Tonna — curator, architect, and artistic director of axis_ art gallery in Malta. Rather than selecting for a single specific show, the call is structured as a directional invitation: artists share current work and practice direction, which may lead to upcoming exhibitions, projects, or residencies starting from July 2026.

Eligibility is restricted to emerging Maltese and Malta-based visual artists. Disciplines accepted include painting, sculpture, installation, video, ceramics, photography, and cross-disciplinary practice. The brief is oriented toward work that can be exhibited and is available for sale.

Selection priority is for artists with some experience presenting work in exhibitions independently — established practice direction, but pre-institutional. The format is an open invitation rather than a one-off selection: outcomes vary depending on the work and its fit with planned programming.

Submission is through Google Forms with up to 5 images. Application is free. The 2026 deadline was April 30; outcomes communicated from July 2026 onward.
