MACK — Debut Photography Book Submissions
MACK is a London-based independent photobook publisher founded in 2010 by Michael Mack, formerly Managing Director of Steidl. The publisher releases approximately 40 photobooks per year and has published work with photographers including Robert Adams, Alec Soth, and Wolfgang Tillmans. The Debut Photography Book window is specifically reserved for first-time photobook authors — artists who have not previously had a book published.
The window favors experimental approaches to the book form. The brief is loose: MACK is looking for emerging voices working through book sequencing as a primary medium rather than treating the book as a passive container for finished images.
The window is edited by Michael Mack and Iman Hakimi, with both involved in the selection process. Each submission consists of a single PDF (a draft sequence of the project) plus a completed submissions form, sent to submissions@mackbooks.co.uk with the subject line "Submission: Debut Photography Book." WeTransfer, Dropbox, and other download links are not accepted.
MACK does not provide feedback on rejected submissions. From acceptance to publication, the publisher notes that "it typically takes between one and two years to develop and prepare a book for publication" — submission is the beginning of a long collaborative process rather than an immediate decision. The publisher commits to responding within one month of the window's deadline.
Submissions are accepted only during the May 1 through May 31, 2026 window.
