Inge Morath Award 2026

The Inge Morath Award is administered by the Magnum Foundation in cooperation with Magnum Photos and the Inge Morath Estate. It is named after Inge Morath (1923–2002), the Austrian-born photographer who became Magnum's first woman member in 1955. The 2026 edition is the award's 25th year.

The award supports women and nonbinary photographers under 30 working on long-term documentary projects. The recipient receives $7,500. One finalist receives $1,000 to support completion of their own project — a smaller second-tier grant rather than recognition only.

Selection is unusual: the full membership of Magnum Photos votes during the agency's Annual General Meeting, alongside representatives from the Inge Morath Estate and the Executive Director of the Magnum Foundation. The award functions partly as a Magnum talent-pipeline mechanism — past recipients have gone on to become Magnum nominees and members.

Eligibility is restricted by age and gender: women and nonbinary photographers under 30 only. Submission is through Submittable with 15–20 images. Application is free. The 2026 deadline was April 30; results announced July–August 2026.
