Filter Space 2026/27 Call for Exhibition Proposals

Filter Photo runs Filter Space, a photography-focused exhibition space at 1821 W Hubbard Street, Suite 207 in Chicago. The 2026/27 Call for Exhibition Proposals seeks photography, photographic materials, and lens-based artwork — including moving-image work, installations, and performances related to photography — from individual artists, curators, and collectives, for solo or group projects.

Selected proposals receive a four- to six-week exhibition slot in 2027–2028 with at least one opening reception, plus the opportunity to host an artist talk, panel, or workshop during the run. Filter Photo provides marketing materials and press support.

Stipends are paid based on W.A.G.E. (Working Artists and the Greater Economy) standards, which sets a baseline minimum-fee schedule for exhibiting artists — for example, $1,250 for a solo exhibition at this venue size. The W.A.G.E. baseline distinguishes Filter Photo from venues that exhibit work without paying artists.

Selection is by Filter Photo staff plus an external Exhibition Advisory Committee. The 2026 advisory panel comprises Luciano Medrano (Director, PATRON Gallery), Emilia Mickevicius (Center for Creative Photography / Phoenix Art Museum), Kristin Taylor (Museum of Contemporary Photography), and Yechen Zhao (Art Institute of Chicago). Submissions go through Submittable; the deadline is June 17, 2026, with results announced August 2026.
