Cite the Past, Sight the Stars — Wigwell Lodge Residency

Two-month fully funded residency at Wigwell Lodge in Derbyshire, run by The Photographers' Gallery in partnership with The Ampersand Foundation, for artists working with expanded photography and digital practices. Framed by photography's 200th anniversary, the call takes a set of speculative starting points — the Mnemosyne Atlas, the Voyager Golden Record, StarDisk, Inverted World Labs — and invites proposals that test ideas rather than deliver finished work. Suggested threads include image-making and celestial fictions, institutional archives, photography's relationship to computational culture, deep time, cosmic and earthly debris, transmissions and satellite imagery, and digital twins and AI world models. The residency provides accommodation and studio space at Wigwell Lodge, a £1,000 monthly stipend, a £1,000 production budget, up to £500 towards travel, promotion, and curatorial and administrative support, with the potential to develop into a commission for 2027/2028 and a public presentation at the Gallery or a partner venue. Open to individual artists over 18 with the legal right to work in the UK; no visa sponsorship is available. The residency runs 2 February – 31 March 2027.
