Backwards/Forwards

Juried exhibition of handmade prints at Light Art Space in Silver City, New Mexico, staged as the juried show of the Southwest Print Fiesta. The brief asks artists to treat time as material — memory, pressure, inheritance, repetition, rupture and possibility — looking backward at the histories that shape us and forward at futures we imagine or fear. All work must be handmade prints made by the artist in the last five years using traditional printmaking and/or photographic processes: silver gelatin, photopolymer and copperplate gravure, cyanotype, vandyke, gum bichromate, palladium, platinum, carbon, salt, chemigram, lumen, argyrotype, oil print, chlorophyll, instant transfers and lifts, alongside etching, woodcut, lithography, screenprint and letterpress. 3D and experimental work encouraged. Digital processes are allowed only where meaningfully integrated with handmade methods; AI-generated and purely digital prints are ineligible. Juror Terran J. Last Gun, Piikani artist based in Santa Fe and an Art in America 2026 New Talent. Open worldwide to artists 18 and over. $35 for three works, $10 per additional piece up to ten, $20 for full-time students. Work must arrive ready to hang but framing is not required. Exhibition runs 8 October – 7 November 2026 with a reception and juror talk on 9 October; gallery takes 50% on sales and artists cover shipping both ways.
