Al & Mickey Quinlan Artist Residency 2026

The Al & Mickey Quinlan Artist Residency runs at the Dome House — a twin-lobed concrete structure built into sand dunes on the Lake Michigan shore, adjacent to Whitefish Dunes State Park on Wisconsin's Door Peninsula. The residency is a partnership between the Quinlan family and the Miller Art Museum.

Residency length is eight weeks. The 2026 cycle runs August 2 – September 27. One artist is selected each cycle. Semi-private loft living quarters and an adjacent studio/workspace are provided, fully furnished. Stipend is $500.

Eligibility is restricted to artists residing in the Midwest US: Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, or South Dakota. Eligible disciplines: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, or related fine-art mediums.

There's an outreach obligation — residents must provide a minimum of 5 hours per week of educational engagement: workshops, artist talks, or demonstrations. The residency is structured around community engagement as well as production time.

Application is free, made through the Dome House website. The 2026 deadline was April 30.
