After Dark: Night, Sky, and Shadow

PhotoPlace Gallery is a photography gallery in Middlebury, Vermont, that programs juried thematic exhibitions on a rolling schedule. After Dark: Night, Sky, and Shadow is the gallery's call for photographs made between dusk and dawn.

The brief is broad in approach but narrow in time-of-day: night and astrophotography, urban and street scenes, long exposures, light painting, and experimental techniques are all eligible — provided the work was made in low or no natural light.

The 2026 juror is Lance Keimig, a night photographer who has published technical guides on photographing in darkness. Selection structure: up to 35 images in the physical gallery exhibition, 40 in an online gallery, with all selected works appearing in a printed catalog.

Cash prizes are $300 (first), $200 (second), $50 (third). Eligibility is open globally. Submission is through the gallery's website with up to 5 images. Fee is $39. The 2026 deadline was May 4; results announced June 2, 2026.
