2027 Call for Exhibit Proposals

The Museum of Northern California Art (monca) in Chico invites Northern California artists to propose a solo or small group exhibition for its Phillips Gallery, a 32 by 27 foot space. Four slots are offered across 2027, running six to eight weeks each between March 2027 and January 2028, with opening receptions on the Friday of the first week. Artwork must have been produced primarily in Northern California and the artist must currently live in one of the eligible counties; work previously exhibited at monca is not eligible and AI-generated work is excluded. Applications are reviewed by monca's exhibition committee of six artists and collectors, and ask for 8 to 12 images of proposed or representative works, an artist statement, a proposal narrative setting out the vision and thematic focus of the show (including any equipment or electrical needs), and a CV. Artists install and deinstall their own work. The museum does not actively market artwork but keeps a price list at reception and takes 50% commission on any sales.
