2026 Call for Curators

Annual call for curatorial proposals for Crown Gallery at Metro Art Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for an exhibition running 7 November 2026 to 2 January 2027. Open to curators working or residing in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey; all visual art mediums are considered, and the gallery is particularly suited to large installations and conceptual art as well as more traditional forms. The selected curator receives a $350 stipend. Proposals need a curatorial statement explaining the focus and concept, a minimum of three artists, and between ten and twenty images of the work planned for the show — examples of similar work are acceptable. All work in the exhibition must be for sale, and artwork by the proposing curator may not account for more than a third of the pieces shown. Special consideration goes to proposals reflecting a commitment to access, diversity, equity and inclusion. Crown Gallery is roughly 1,250 square feet — 25 by 50 feet with 11-foot ceilings — in a restored mill building; a floor plan is attached to the prospectus and a visit before applying is encouraged. Installation runs 31 October to 4 November, and the opening reception on Saturday 7 November coincides with a weekend-long city-wide open studio event that brings almost 2,000 visitors to Metro Art Studios. The curator handles wall labels, price list and other in-gallery material; the organisation covers neither shipping nor installation costs, though pedestals are available and all work is fully insured while on site in a building with 24-hour security. A 40 per cent commission is retained on sales. Metro Art Studios is a non-profit housing 39 loft studios in a three-storey former corset factory in Bridgeport's South End.
