The Sweep of Time: Beyond the Horizon
Manifest Gallery is a Cincinnati-based nonprofit creative research gallery. "The Sweep of Time: Beyond the Horizon" launches the gallery's 23rd season and is presented as a participating venue project of the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial, The Long View.
The call is open to all traditional and non-traditional photographic and light-based media, including mixed-media work with a dominant lens-based component. Taking a phrase from Marcus Aurelius as its premise, it invites work that holds the immediate and the enduring in the same frame — engaging time as subject, symbol, or environment; the horizon as literal landscape or conceptual threshold; and distance, duration, memory, or continuity.
Selected work is shown at Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, September 25 – October 23, 2026. Every exhibiting artist receives a $50 honorarium — payment for selection, not just inclusion — and one work during each exhibition period receives a $1,000 Grand Jury Award. Artists receive 70% on sales.
Selection is by an anonymous multi-member jury of professional and academic advisors, whose recommendations pass to the exhibit curator for final selection. There are no restrictions on the date a work was made.
Submission is through the gallery's website with up to 3 entries for $45, $5 per additional entry, and no limit on number of entries. Eligibility is open internationally. The deadline is June 28, 2026; notifications by August 17.
