PLAYFUL

Arc Gallery's 2027 national juried exhibition, built around the playful spirit — light-hearted, lively, spontaneous work full of fun, amusement and wit, taking its cue from Claes Oldenburg. The gallery is looking for creative play and grown-up mischief: bright colour, whimsical typography, funny imagery, sly innuendo, interactive works that invite audience participation, work that captures street art or spontaneous street photography, and work that expresses child-like wonder and game-play. Photography is among the accepted categories alongside painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fibre art and artist books; jewellery, video, film, performance and works needing an external power source are not accepted. Juried by Jennifer Farris, owner of STUDIO Gallery in San Francisco. Three works judged the most imaginative interpretations of the theme each receive $250, a juror's award ribbon, a recognition certificate and the show catalogue; all selected work, gallery and online, appears in the exhibition catalogue. Entry is $35 for one to three images, maximum two entries per artist. Open to artists residing in the United States. Exhibition runs June 19 – July 17, 2027 at Arc Gallery, 1246 Folsom Street, San Francisco.
