Photoworks Guest Issue 4 — Rituals
Photoworks SF is a San Francisco community photography center offering film developing, custom printing, framing, and educational programs. Photoworks Guest is the center's recurring zine series, with each issue centered on a theme drawn from open-call submissions. Issue 4 is themed "Rituals" — exploring the relationship between rituals and photography.
The brief is unusually accessible: rituals interpreted broadly. Examples cited include daily commutes, ceremonies, holiday traditions, cooking, or anything done with regularity. The framing favors small everyday gestures over high-ceremony moments.
Selected photographers appear in the printed Photoworks Guest zine. Longer features with photographer interviews are also available for projects that fit the theme more substantively — a two-tier publication structure where some submissions get full feature treatment and others appear as single-image contributions.
Submission is free of charge. Each photographer submits 1 to 3 images via Google Form. Eligibility is open globally — Photoworks Guest accepts submissions beyond their San Francisco community.
The Issue 4 deadline is May 15, 2026; publication in June 2026.
