Odesa Workshop — Environmental Consequences of War in Ukraine
Inland is a documentary photography platform running a focused workshop on the environmental consequences of war in Ukraine. The program is supported by JournalismFund Europe and structured as a 7-month hybrid format running from June through November 2026.
The structure has three phases. Phase 1 (June 2026) is online lectures from international experts. Phase 2 is a 3-day in-person intensive workshop in Odesa, Ukraine, September 11–13, 2026. Phase 3 (through November 2026) is one-on-one mentorship with Inland photographers and project development support.
Ten to twelve participants are selected. All must attend all phases of the program. One selected participant receives a €1,500 production grant for project development plus additional mentorship.
Eligibility is restricted to early- to mid-career Ukrainian and Ukraine-based photographers and photojournalists with documentary or journalistic experience. Applicants must have an ongoing or proposed project specifically about environmental impacts of war in Ukraine.
The application and the workshop itself are free. Participants cover their own transportation; Inland provides accommodation in Odesa for the 3-day intensive. Mentors include photographers Patrick Wack and Matjaž Tančič, AFP Chief Photographer Ukraine Roman Pilipey, and Kyiv Independent Photo Editor Irynka Hromotska. The 2026 deadline is May 10 at 11:59 PM CEST; selections announced May 15.
