nice;04
Midwest Nice Art is an artist collective and curatorial platform founded by Tim Rickett and Epiphany Knedler. The collective's annual juried exhibition has run since 2023; "nice;04" is the fourth edition.
The brief is open: no specific theme. The series is positioned as a survey of contemporary artists exploring complex personal and social narratives, with selection emphasizing genuine engagement over formal polish. The framing reflects the collective's investment in regional and emerging contemporary practice.
The 2026 exhibition runs July 13 through September 11, 2026 at JFAC Gallery, Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The gallery does not take a sales commission on selected work. Cash awards: $300 first place, $200 second, $100 third, plus four $50 honorable mentions.
Selection is by the two collective co-founders: Tim Rickett and Epiphany Knedler.
Submission is free. Eligibility is open nationally. Submitted work must be framed and ready for exhibition, under 8 feet tall, 5 feet wide, and weighing no more than 30 pounds — practical constraints set by the gallery space. The 2026 deadline is May 20, 2026; selections announced June 1; physical work delivery by June 30.
