Framed: Black and White

Framed: Black and White is the black-and-white-themed cycle of Black Box Gallery's recurring juried exhibition program. Black Box Gallery is a Portland, Oregon photography gallery directed by Todd Johnson, who holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and acts as juror for the gallery's calls. The brief seeks classic, nostalgic, and dynamic monochrome work spanning the diversity of contemporary voices working in B&W today.

The selection structure follows the gallery's standard format: 26 photographs are chosen for the physical gallery exhibition, 50 additional for the online gallery annex, and all 76 selected works appear in a printed Blurb catalog.

The gallery covers all printing, matting, and framing for selected work — archival printing on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper. After the exhibition closes, prints stay in the gallery's flat files for two years of ongoing promotion.

Entry fee is $40 per submission of up to 5 photos. Submissions are by email — JPEG, max 1200 pixels longest side, 72 PPI, under 5MB. Eligibility is open worldwide. Sales terms: 50% gallery commission, photographer retains rights and may opt out of sale.

The 2026 deadline was April 10; juror decisions communicated approximately April 17–20, 2026.
