Día de Muertos 2026 — Remembering Is Resistance

For its 2026 Día de Muertos exhibition, Recordar es Resistir / Remembering Is Resistance, Longmont’s Firehouse Art Center pairs artists with community members affected by US immigration policy so that each work carries a real story, told safely and anonymously. Selected artists meet their partner between August 24 and October 1 and translate that person’s words and experience into a piece for the Main Gallery, where the show sits as both reflection and provocation. Accepted mediums include photography, digital art, painting, drawing, collage, mixed media, text-based work, sculpture, installation, fibre and touchable or interactive work. The centre asks for practices that confront, reflect on or challenge political realities, global or deeply personal, and states plainly that credentials matter less than passion and messaging. Applicants send a single PDF holding a 200-word bio, a 200-word statement and five images. There is no entry fee. The call is addressed to artists in the Longmont area aged 18 and over, and work is hand-delivered on October 5 and 6. Community members need no paperwork and are compensated for their time; translators are provided for anyone who prefers to apply or work in another language. The Firehouse waives its commission entirely and splits any sale equally between artist and community member. The exhibition runs October 9 to November 1, 2026, opening with a reception on October 9.
